BIOGRAPHY

Following a varied career as an English teacher abroad, a bookseller in Wales and a London and British Isles tour guide, Hilary finally settled in the Upper Calder Valley to raise her family. For many years now she has worked in the field of disability and employment, fighting for social inclusion on behalf of disadvantaged groups. She shares a passion for community engagement and local regeneration with her partner, Dr Lindsay Smales, and urban design consultant. Between them they have four more-or-less grown-up children and live in Todmorden where they enjoy hill walking with their border collie.

Before a general election is actually called, there is no actual candidate, but local parties normally select a spokesperson in advance who will normally become the candidate, Hilary Myers was selected in 2007 to be the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Calder Valley in a contested ballot of all local party members.

We organise campaigns for elections to the Westminster Parliament for the County Constituency that covers half the population of Calderdale Metropolitan Borough.
