Hilary Myers
Hilary Myers has been adopted by Calderdale Liberal Democrats to fight the 2010 general election for the Calder Valley constituency. She was selected as the prospective candidate in June 2007 and has been the Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in Calder Valley since that time.
Hilary has a number of roles in the local community including Chair of Governors at Todmorden High School, board member of the Upper Calder Valley Renaissance (Ltd) and Todmorden Town Councillor. She also served on Calderdale Council from 2003 – 2004. She has actively campaigned in support of the local tourism industry and is a champion of better mental health services.
Before getting married and moving to Calder Valley with her young family, Hilary had a varied career as an English language teacher in Egypt, a bookshop proprietor in mid-Wales and a London and British Isles tour guide. After a brief period as a university and college lecturer, for many years now she has been employed in the field of disability where she works directly with people who face social exclusion, enabling them to lead productive lives.
Hilary has lived in Todmorden for over twenty years. She has two children and two step-children, all now living fulfilled and independent lives. In her leisure time Hilary enjoys walking, sailing, spending time with family and friends, trips to the theatre and good books.
